Measuring Your V Belt

V Belts cannot be measured by folding them in half or measuring what’s left of a snapped belt, the most accurate way to measure a belt is with a belt length gauge a tool used by most belt stockists.
However the likely hood is that when your belt fails this type of gauge will not be in your tool box the best thing to use is a simple cloth tape measure – do not use a steel tape measure.
If neither the length gauge nor cloth tape are to hand another option is to wrap string around the belt, then measure the string length.

Depending on the type of belt the most common method of belt length measurements are;

LA/LO = Length around/Length outside – where the outside length of a belt is measured with a cloth tape measure.

LI = Length Inside: The inside length is again measured with a cloth tape measure, or sometimes a piece of string.

LP = Length Pitch; Belt pitch length is normally the length at the belt pitch line. This line is generally located at the neutral axis near the cord line and varies with cross section and V Belt construction.

From a Hoover to a Tractor

Poly V or Ribbed belts can be used for a multitude of applications…vacuum cleaners, fitness bikes, concrete mixers, Agricultural machinery, fans to name but a few.
The application advantages of Poly V belts;

  • A reduced belt thickness - allowing the use of smaller diameter pulleys.
  • Lighter and more compact drives are acheivable.
  • Centre distances are reduced.
  • Space can be saved without pokwer loss.
  • Smooth Running.
  • No belt turnover.

As well as the standard production range of H/PH J/PJ K/PK the Steigentech Poly V belt range is also available with special backing, EPDM construction and aramid cord.

Milestones

Well I guess we are officially here now that the business sign has gone up…this was put up toady thankfully…at last those carriers should be able to find us now.

Nothing to get excited about you might say, but for me the sign going up was another milestone in the short life of Drive Parts Direct, and there’s been quite a few of those so far;

  • ·         Taking the keys to the unit.
  • ·         Getting the warehouse racking set up.
  • ·         Employing Tommy as our first warehouse assistant.
  • ·         Convincing the wife (again) to be non-paid part time assistant and cleaner and   that this was the only way she would get to see me awake for a few months.
  • ·         Receiving and setting up our timing belt slitting machine.
  • ·         Receiving our first shipment of Steigentech belts and Diamond chain- more to follow.
  • ·         Going live to the World Wide Web.
  • ·         Cutting our first timing belts with our new machine.
  • ·         Receiving our first order.
  • ·         First collection by UPS.

As we continue on our journey I am sure there will be many more milestones and I look forward to achieving them and sharing them with you as they happen.

Well it’s been another exciting week here at Drive Parts Direct Ltd as went live to the world and started to receive and dispatch customer orders. It gave me enormous pleasure to see our Steigentech belts being picked and dispatched by Tommy in our warehouse and UPS arriving for their first collection.

The first order was printed and will be kept for our archives.

As this week draws to a close I am already looking forward to next week, our second week of trading I am sure it will be as exciting and as interesting as this one.

Getting the best from your Roller Chain

Roller chain is manufactured from highly engineered components and proper maintenance is required for users to get the maxim efficiency from the chain. You should always make regular visual inspections and carry out preventative maintenance as and when required.
Proper lubrication of a chain drive is very important and will help to give the best performance. If the chain is not properly lubricated its life will be decreased, lack of lubrication is one of the main causes of premature chain wear and failure.
Lubrication using the correctly selected/recommended lubricant is vital to minimise the wear of the chain components which have direct metal to metal contact, wear will result due to friction if not lubricated.Chain elongation can also be caused by wear between the chain pin and bush during its movement, as well as helping to prevent elongation, good lubrication cools down the chain when running at high speed and helps reduce noise while running.

Timing Belt- Perfect Timing

Timing Belts offer a no-slip, no maintenance, no lubrication and no high initial tension making them the ideal solution for various industry applications, such as small precision machinery - computing, office automation, sewing machines, to medium duty applications machines tools, washing machines and even some heavier duty applications such as woodworking, paper or printing equipment.
Our classical & Metric Timing Belts have been designated to match the highest European design requirements with a temperature range from -30°C up to +80°C, giving moderate resistance to common oils, good resistance to heat and cold environment, Low noise, high speed ratio, high belt speed and meeting RoHS and REACH requirements.
We have a large stock of sleeves ready to cut to your requirements, if your application requires a timing belt, why not give us a try.
